It is with broken hearts that we share the devastating news of the passing of Michele Parkins of Denville, New Jersey, who died following a bicycle accident. Michele was not only a gifted Occupational Therapist, but a beloved mother, wife, mentor, and a guiding light to families navigating complex developmental journeys.
Michele was the Founder and Director of Great Kids Place, a practice known for its transformative, child-centered therapies that helped countless children and families thrive. Her work was not just a career—it was a calling. As the creator of the Sensory Emotional Engagement Model™, Michele pioneered a new way of understanding and supporting neurodiverse children, blending science, heart, and deep human connection.
She was known to many as “OT Mama of 2”, and it was that role—motherhood—that grounded and inspired her work. Michele poured her wisdom, creativity, and compassion into everything she did, whether guiding her own children or teaching others to better support theirs.

To the many families she worked with, Michele was a lifeline. One parent shared:
“Michele was invaluable to our family while we were navigating young Dean’s mind and body. I’m just heartbroken at the loss of this wonderful human.”
Through her clinic, her teachings, and her personal touch, Michele touched thousands of lives. She empowered parents, mentored therapists, and most importantly, gave children the tools to understand themselves and grow with joy and confidence.
The news of her death has shaken her community. Katie Dobkin, a friend and colleague, expressed what so many are feeling:
“I still can’t wrap my head around this has happened.”
Michele is survived by her devoted husband and two beloved children, whom she adored and cherished above all else. She also leaves behind a legacy of care, advocacy, and innovation that will continue to shape the world of pediatric therapy for generations to come.
The Great Kids Place team, her extended family of colleagues and clients, and the entire therapeutic community mourn this unimaginable loss.
In Michele’s memory, may we continue her mission—to meet every child with empathy, every parent with support, and every challenge with heart.
